The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Eastern Region Coordinator, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, has officially launched the Bugisu Chapter mobilization drive aimed at consolidating support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s 2026 presidential bid.
The event, held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Court’s View Hotel in Mbale City, marked the beginning of Tanna’s first regional mobilization tour under the theme “Tuko Pamoja” (We Are Together).

The meeting brought together PLU coordinators and leaders from across the Bugisu sub-region to strategize on how to deliver a decisive win for the NRM in the forthcoming elections.

In his remarks, Hon. Tanna rallied the coordinators to embark on a vigorous door-to-door campaign aimed at strengthening grassroots support for President Museveni.
He emphasized that Bugisu, despite being politically diverse, remains vital in ensuring NRM’s continued dominance in Eastern Uganda.

“I did not begin my meetings in Bugisu by chance,” Tanna stated. “This is my home, and I understand the political dynamics here. Despite the fact that Bugisu has a presidential candidate, our duty remains clear, to sensitize the people and remind them that President Museveni is the tested and trusted leader Uganda needs beyond 2026.”
The meeting was attended by a number of PLU regional leaders including Vincent Woboya, Bugisu Sub-Region Coordinator; Hajji Isma Welujjo, his deputy; Rita Namuwenge, Mbale City Coordinator; Aziz Abudallah, member of the Mbale City Team; Dr. Waburoko Dominic, Bududa District Coordinator; and Rwakubera Hope, Mbale District Coordinator.
Tanna congratulated the newly appointed coordinators, applauding their loyalty, diligence, and patriotism.
He noted that their appointments were based on merit and commitment to the NRM’s vision of peace, development, and prosperity for all Ugandans.
“Your selection is not by coincidence,” Tanna remarked. “You were chosen because you have demonstrated steadfastness in championing the NRM cause and the President’s development agenda at the grassroots level.”
The Mbale meeting set the tone for a renewed spirit of unity and coordination among PLU leaders in Bugisu, with an emphasis on message consistency, teamwork, and data-driven mobilization.
The PLU aims to reinforce the NRM’s structures through community engagement, focusing on youth mobilization, household economic empowerment, and peace consolidation.
Hon. Tanna revealed that his next stop would be Bukedi Sub-Region, where he is expected to flag off the next phase of the PLU’s mobilization program.
Speaking to this publication on the sidelines of the meeting, Tanna expressed confidence in the PLU’s ability to deliver overwhelming support for President Museveni in 2026.
“This is a familiar terrain for me,” he said. “In 2021, we mobilized for the President’s votes amid the NUP wave, and we performed strongly. This time, we are better organized, more united, and ready to secure an even bigger victory.”
The mobilization drive in Bugisu is part of a broader national campaign by the Patriotic League of Uganda to strengthen NRM grassroots networks and ensure continuity of the party’s development agenda under President Museveni’s leadership.
