Engineer Ssewava Mukasa Joseph, a candidate for the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) Vice Chairperson-Central Region seat (Buganda), extended his campaign trail to Northern Uganda over the weekend, where he was warmly embraced by leaders, delegates, and community members who described him as a “loyal son of the soil.”
Ssewava, who has been traversing different regions of Uganda to consolidate support, was earlier christened “Lapeyok” (the blessed one who brings good news) by Karamoja leaders and “Alliachabo” (the warrior who brings salvation) in West Nile.

In Acholiland, the community bestowed upon him yet another name, Komagum, meaning “My Resolve is Strong.”

The gesture, according to cultural and political leaders, symbolized trust, respect, and acceptance of Ssewava as part of the Northern Uganda community.
“We have seen many contestants come from Kampala to meet us and splash lots of money here, but that was and is the last we ever hear or see of them. You brought only your humble self, knelt before our leaders, and asked us to adopt you as our own. You did not need to come with anything else because we are happy to see you, our son, who has already been utilizing his linkages at the Office of the President to empower many Acholi youth and residents,” said the NRM Chairperson in Acholi.

Leaders highlighted that several of their best mobilizers, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), Office of the National Chairman (ONC) staff, government officials, and even successful entrepreneurs had been mentored by Ssewava.
They hailed him for quietly supporting the region’s human capital development even before declaring his bid for the influential CEC seat.
“Eng. Ssewava has been with us in practice, and we are confident he will continue to stand with us,” another delegate remarked during the meeting.
In his response, Ssewava expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming welcome and pledged to remain a servant leader.
“I am humbled by the love, the names, and the trust you have given me. Northern Uganda is not just a region to me but a family I am committed to walk with. My resolve is indeed strong, to ensure inclusivity, to amplify voices from every corner, and to strengthen the NRM’s bond with its people,” Ssewava said.
Political analysts note that Ssewava’s growing acceptance across regions beyond Buganda strengthens his candidature ahead of the NRM internal elections, making him one of the few contestants enjoying cross-regional appeal.
With his campaign message rooted in humility, service, and inclusivity, Ssewava’s northern Uganda tour has further cemented his standing as a formidable contender in the race for the CEC Vice Chairperson-Central seat.
