The Bishop of the Anglican Church of Soroti Diocese, Rt. Rev. Kosea Odongo, has called on students of Soroti Secondary School to live in harmony, love one another, and remain committed to hard work and faith in God.
During his pastoral visit to Soroti Secondary School on Wednesday, Bishop Kosea confirmed 68 students into the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

In a powerful sermon delivered on the school premises, he emphasized the importance of unity, spiritual growth, and moral uprightness among students.

“We are better when we are together, the future belongs to those who work hard. If you are lazy, you have already settled for less. The only way to change your village and family is by working hard. Don’t despise your background you are the one meant to change it.” Bishop said
He encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies and resist the temptations of evil, reminding them that their presence at Soroti SS is a blessing.

“I was once here, and today I stand before you as a Bishop. You too can become great just work hard, don’t compare yourselves with others in so-called ‘better’ schools we share the same subjects and goals.” He said
Quoting Matthew 13:44, Bishop Odongo likened the Kingdom of God to a treasure hidden in a field, calling on the students to value their spiritual journey.
He also referenced Romans 14:17, underscoring that the Kingdom of God is not about material pleasures but about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
“The Lord desires forgiveness, righteousness, and acceptance. Life without Jesus is meaningless,” he said, urging students to be born again and live in anticipation of Christ’s return.
The Bishop encouraged the newly confirmed students to spread the gospel.
“You have been blessed with love and divine spirit. Now it’s your turn to serve, pray for others, preach, help the needy, and feed the hungry,” he added.
Bishop Odongo also praised the school’s administration, thanking the headteacher, staff, PTA, and Board of Governors for their dedication to quality education and leadership.
“I know you are going through a lot, but you’ve sacrificed and managed this great school in Eastern Uganda with humility, and the results speak for themselves,” he said.
He conveyed greetings from his wife and family in the UK, where he had recently visited.
The visit was marked by vibrant student performances in music and drama. Headteacher Mr. Oluka Wilfred Okeriau welcomed the Bishop warmly, noting that his coming to Soroti SS a testimony to the school’s legacy.
“The Bishop’s visit is not only a blessing but a clear indication of the kind of results Soroti SS can produce, “We are proud to be nurturing such leaders.” said Mr. Okeriau
Several newly confirmed students expressed gratitude and excitement for their spiritual milestone, Kevin Aguti thanked the Bishop for guiding them into a life with Christ, Paul Oduno said he now feels ready to preach the gospel, and Josephine Akia shared her joy in receiving the Body and Blood of Christ, pledging to help the needy and live a life of faith.
The event concluded with a blessing from the Bishop, who wished the school continued success and called on all students and staff to remain prayerful and united in love.
