David Calvin Echodu, a leading contender for the position of NRM National Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, has met with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in what is seen as a significant development ahead of the upcoming NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections.
The meeting was confirmed by Augustine Otuko, the spokesperson for David Calvin Echodu Taskforce for CEC bid, who revealed that the interaction was part of Echodu’s ongoing consultations and briefings with the party’s top leadership.

“Amidst his busy campaign trail for the NRM National Vice Chairperson Eastern Region position, Hon. David Calvin Echodu spared time to brief H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni on a special assignment that had earlier been entrusted to him by the President,” Otuko stated.

According to Otuko, Echodu also seized the opportunity to present feedback from NRM delegates and grassroots leaders that he has interacted with during his campaign trail across the region.
This feedback reportedly touched on issues of service delivery, party mobilization, and strengthening the bond between the NRM’s leadership and its members.

The NRM CEC race for Eastern Uganda has attracted Nine (09) candidates including incumbent Capt. Mike Mukula, David Calvin Echodu, Daniel Okurut, Dr. Patrick Lodoi Mutono, Mariam Naiga, Daniel Ikwap, Elsasoor Lumumba Musa Masuya, Christopher Buyela, and John Masaba Namunane.
Echodu during the meeting with the President emphasized that his campaign remains anchored on his vision of “Bringing New Energy to the Party,” aimed at rejuvenating the NRM’s grassroots structures and enhancing communication between delegates and the party’s top decision-making organs.
“I am committed to bridging the gap between the grassroots and the Central Executive Committee,” Echodu has often said during his rallies.
“Our people want to feel connected to the party leadership, and I intend to provide that bridge.”
Political observers see Echodu’s meeting with President Museveni as a calculated step that could bolster his campaign, especially as he seeks to position himself as a candidate loyal to the party’s national chairman while championing renewal in Eastern Uganda’s leadership.
With the NRM CEC elections fast approaching, this development underscores the intensity of the race to unseat incumbent Vice Chairperson Capt. Mike Mukula, who has held the position for over a decade.
As campaigns heat up, Echodu’s interaction with the President is likely to boost his profile among delegates who view proximity to the Head of State as a strong indicator of political credibility within the party.
