The Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Eciru Oliach has called on Christians to make firm and consistent decisions in their spiritual journey, warning against indecisiveness and wavering faith.
The bishop delivered this powerful message during his homily at the St. Karoli Lwanga Parish Day celebration in Kaberemaido District.

Speaking to faithful who gathered for the occasion, Bishop Eciru emphasized the importance of commitment to Christian values, urging believers to take decisive steps in their relationship with God.

“We are in the valley of decision making and we must make these decisions once and remain consistent with them,” the bishop declared.
“My friend, never follow Christ with a distance and never follow Christ with hesitation.”

He reminded Christians that hesitation in faith leads to spiritual weakness, noting that being indecisive about following Christ is not an option for those who truly believe.
“It’s not good for us to remain undecided,” Bishop Eciru said. “Make a decision like St. Karoli Lwanga, who chose to die for Christ rather than compromise his faith.”
In his homily, the prelate drew inspiration from the life of St. Karoli Lwanga, one of the Uganda Martyrs celebrated for his courage and unwavering faith in the face of persecution.
Bishop Eciru challenged Christians to emulate this steadfastness, urging them to become men and women of principle who stand firm in the truth.
“Sometimes people live in the law of the opposite by doing exactly what God tells us not to do,” he lamented, pointing out that such behavior leads believers away from the path of righteousness.
The bishop further explained that true discipleship demands daily commitment.
“Choose God despite whatever happens,” he emphasized. “Every day, choose God and do not look back.”
Bishop Eciru warned against what he termed “lukewarm Christianity,” where believers show interest in faith but fail to live it out fully.
He said this half hearted approach weakens the Church and leaves individuals vulnerable to sin and moral compromise.
“Do not follow Christ from a distance. Draw closer to Him in prayer, in the sacraments, and in your daily actions,” he urged.
The bishop praised the example of St. Karoli Lwanga, who is celebrated as a model of courage, purity and loyalty to Christ.
“Karoli Lwanga was a man of consistent faith. He stood firm in the truth and did not waver even when it meant death,” Bishop Eciru said. “Today, we need Christians who will stand firm like him, no matter the challenges.”
The homily comes at a time when society faces increasing moral and spiritual challenges.
Bishop Eciru urged believers to resist the temptations of materialism, corruption and moral decay, which he described as forces pulling people away from God.
He concluded by calling on all Christians to renew their faith and live as true witnesses of Christ in their families, workplaces, and communities.
“Our faith must not be a matter of convenience,” he said. “It must be a decision we make every day, with conviction and courage.”
