Soroti Catholic Diocese is bracing for a momentous occasion as it prepares to ordain three priests and one deacon in celebration of faith and vocation.
The ordination ceremony is scheduled to take place at St. Andrew Catholic Parish – Obalanga on Saturday, July 19, 2025, with the liturgy to be led by the Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Eciru Oliach.

The long-anticipated event marks a spiritual milestone not only for the ordinands but also for the Diocese and the wider Catholic community in Teso and beyond.

The ordination will witness the elevation of Seminarian Bosco Oumen to the Diaconate, alongside the ordination of three deacons to the sacred priesthood.
Seminarian Bosco Oumen, a son of Holy Cross Parish Ongutoi, will be ordained as a deacon.

Known for his humility and commitment to pastoral service during his formation years, Oumen’s ordination is seen as a great blessing to the Ongutoi community and a source of inspiration to many young Catholics discerning the religious life.
Among those to be ordained to the priesthood is Deacon Denis Egili, from St. Kizito’s Parish Katine.
Egili, whose journey to the altar has been marked by tireless service and evangelization, will now fully embrace the ministerial priesthood, taking on the sacred duties of celebrating Mass, administering sacraments, and shepherding the faithful.
Also ascending to the priesthood is Deacon Emmanuel Odongo, a Mill Hill Missionary (MHM), from St. Patrick’s Parish Madera.
His missionary zeal and theological depth have made him a beloved figure in both his parish and the missionary society. His ordination is expected to strengthen the missionary outreach of the Catholic Church.
Completing the trio of priestly ordinations is Deacon Gerald Emmanuel Ongodia of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Kidetok.
Ongodia has been actively engaged in youth ministry and catechesis, earning admiration for his passionate preaching and pastoral sensitivity.
Speaking ahead of the event, Soroti Catholic Diocese Communications Director said the ordination is not only a personal victory for the candidates but also a spiritual boost for the entire Diocese.
“We thank God for this gift of vocations. These young men have said yes to God’s call, and we pray for their continued fidelity and fruitfulness in the vineyard of the Lord,” he said.
Thousands of faithful, clergy, religious, and well-wishers are expected to flock to Obalanga for the celebration.
The event will include Holy Mass, solemn rites of ordination, traditional music, and community festivities.
