The former Woman Member of Parliament Amoding Monicah has made a dramatic political comeback by defeating the incumbent MP Christine Apolot in the just-concluded National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries.
According to official results released by the Kumi District NRM registrar late Thursday evening, Amoding emerged victorious with 23,095 votes, narrowly edging out Apolot who garnered 21,817 votes, a difference of only 1,278 votes in a hotly contested race.

Final Results Kumi District NRM Woman MP Primaries indicated that, Amoding Monicah got 23,095 votes, polot Christine, 21,817, Akomolot Getrude 9,455, Aanyu Brenda 1,920, Agwang Phoebe, 1,676 and Ojakol Harriet 1,237 votes.

The narrow margin of victory signals a deeply divided NRM support base in the district, with both Amoding and Apolot commanding significant followings.
The race attracted a total of six candidates, but the showdown largely revolved around the former and current MPs.

Amoding Monicah, who previously served as the Woman MP for Kumi in the 9th and 10th Parliament, lost the 2021 general elections but has now bounced back in style to reclaim her grip on Kumi’s political scene.
“This is a victory for the women, youth, and elderly of Kumi who believe in leadership that listens, learns, and acts,” Amoding said shortly after being declared winner. “I thank the NRM members for giving me a second chance to serve and I promise not to let you down.”
She further called for reconciliation, saying that post-primary divisions should not weaken the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“Now is the time to unite. We are one family, and together we shall deliver a stronger victory for NRM and for the people of Kumi.”
Apolot, a former District Chairperson before joining Parliament in 2021, campaigned on her development record and government lobbying efforts.
However, analysts in Kumi say her campaign struggled to counter Amoding’s strategic grassroots mobilization and nostalgic appeal.
