The State Minister for Works and incumbent Member of Parliament for Amuria County, Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru, has pledged to lobby for the upgrade of Amuria County into a municipality, citing the area’s rapid growth and large population as key factors that warrant the transformation.
While addressing residents during his National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary campaign rallies across the county, Hon. Ecweru said the current size and population of Amuria had outgrown its status and deserved an elevation to municipal status to foster further development.

“We have developed, and our total covered area is too big with a high population, the growth and development of Amuria has reached a point that considers it to be a municipality,” Ecweru stated.

In his address, the minister also made a passionate call for peace and unity during the ongoing electoral processes.
He emphasized the need for a peaceful transition, urging residents of Amuria and the broader Teso sub-region to avoid violence and political conflict, which he warned could destabilize the community and hinder development.

“Let’s conduct peaceful elections and transition we don’t need to destabilize our community or our country, the times of running to camps are over what we need now is peace and development,” Ecweru said.
He further appealed to the public to respect every candidate’s right to campaign freely, encouraging political tolerance and maturity.
“Even if you dislike someone, allow them to look for votes peacefully, don’t destroy their campaigns your power is at the ballot make your decision on polling day and vote the leader you believe in,” he added.
In line with his development agenda, Ecweru also pledged to lobby for tractors and elevators to support the opening of more road infrastructure across Amuria County.
He explained that improved road networks would enhance accessibility and link remote areas to services and leadership.
“My intention for opening these roads is to improve accessibility and create routes to previously unreachable areas, i urge all of you if a road passes through your land, please allow it,” he appealed.
The minister also condemned the election of self-centered leaders who fail to represent the interests of the people.
He advised voters to prioritize candidates with a development focused agenda and the ability to advocate for their communities.
“Don’t elect leaders who only mind themselves and don’t be bribed by money or materials elect a leader by virtue and one who can represent and speak for you,” he said.
Additionally, Ecweru pledged to support local savings groups, particularly those organized by women, saying these groups have often been neglected yet play a crucial role in economic empowerment.
“Most of these savings groups are organized by women and have been left out but i have chosen to support them so they can sustain their livelihoods and empower their families,” he concluded.
