The National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially launched its mobilisation structures in Soroti City, marking a significant step in expanding the party’s presence and influence in the Teso sub-region.
The launch, which took place at the NUP Soroti City offices, was attended by key party leaders and over 1000 delegates from across Teso.

Though organisers had anticipated a turnout of over 750, the large attendance was hailed as a strong sign of NUP’s growing support beyond Central Uganda.

Okware Jonathan, NUP’s Teso regional coordinator, presided over the event and emphasized that the mobilisation campaign would begin in Soroti City viewed as the heart of Teso and gradually extend to all districts in the region.
He also noted that the event featured aspiring candidates submitting their nomination forms for various positions across the region.

George William Okoit, NUP Soroti City Chairperson and a city councillor aspirant for Western Division, expressed satisfaction with the day’s success, despite the challenges in organizing and mobilising grassroots leaders.
“I’m delighted this day has come to pass, It has been a hectic process identifying, organising, networking, and compensating our foot soldiers and delegates,” Okoit said.
“People have always assumed NUP is a Central-based party, but today we are proving our strength, network, and capacity across the country, We are here for change not for jobs, but because our hopes and voices are tied to this nation’s future.”
He urged all leaders to be active and exemplary, stressing that Soroti, with its 144 villages, is the political, economic, and social mother of Teso.
Without proper mobilisation in Soroti, the entire sub-region would remain disorganised, he said
“Leaders who are not active should step aside, We must unite and stop the endless formation of new political parties, this is the time for unity and change,” he added.
Okoit also announced plans to establish ward level mobilisation structures across Soroti City.
Kanabi Moses, from the NUP National Organising Secretariat and guest of honour, applauded the efforts of Teso’s leaders in strengthening the party at grassroots level.
He conveyed greetings from NUP President, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), and commended the youth for stepping up to the challenge of liberating their country.
“I feel more energised seeing young people take responsibility for their future, this is your country fight for it,” Kanabi told the delegates.
He also cautioned against being misled by the ruling NRM party, referring it as a “green snake” that swallows other political movements.
“NRM is a political Emorotot (big snake), absorbing parties and their leaders but NUP will not be swallowed, We are focused and determined to survive and overcome this snake,” Kanabi declared.
He also criticised opposition parties that have been absorbed by NRM and now attack NUP, urging delegates to stay firm and avoid such political traps.
In a significant announcement, Kanabi declared Hon. Julius Ochen as the Special Mobiliser for the Teso region, a decision that was welcomed and approved by Soroti City Chairperson George William Okoit.
The event concluded with a pledge to conduct leadership training sessions across Teso, sponsored by NUP, to cultivate deeply rooted and capable leaders ready to drive the change the party envisions.
“People Power, Our Power. NUP Everywhere! Kunga NUP! Kunga Teso! Kunga Soroti!” were the rallying cries as the mobilisation campaign officially took off in the Teso sub-region.
