The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has yesterday officially nominated Agonyo Juliet as the party’s aspirant for the Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament seat.
Agonyo, who currently serves as the Speaker of Soroti City Council, was nominated at 3:00 PM on Tuesday at the FDC regional offices in Soroti.

She will face off with the incumbent MP, Hon. Alobo Joan, in the party primaries.

Alobo is seeking re-election under the same party ticket.
The FDC nomination exercise, which spans two days, concluded yesterday amid an overwhelming turnout of aspirants vying for various positions ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Speaking after her nomination, Agonyo expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life and to the FDC party and her supporters for their unwavering support.
“Today marks the beginning of our party primaries. We are now going to engage with the people and convince the delegates to choose the best candidate. I am confident I will win this race,” Agonyo stated.
In her address, she pledged to prioritize the promotion of health, education, and transparency in governance.
She decried the current state of Soroti Regional Hospital, citing a lack of medicine and a shortage of medical personnel.
“Our hospital is in a dire state. If I’m given the opportunity, I will move a motion in Parliament to ensure all government-aided hospitals receive the necessary resources,” she said.
Agonyo also emphasized the need for financial accountability in Soroti City, pointing out that the current city budget of UGX 27 billion has remained stagnant since Soroti was a municipality.
“This budget is inadequate to meet the service demands of our people. We need to fight for a fair share of national resources,” she added.
On infrastructure, she vowed to advocate for the construction of better roads and installation of street lights in Soroti City, which she described as being in a “sorrowful state.”
Agonyo also called on the government to increase funding under the Parish Development Model (PDM), proposing an increment of up to UGX 200 million per parish to help residents lift themselves out of poverty.
“Our traditional schools are underperforming not because the government has abandoned them, but because funding is insufficient. There are no accommodations for teachers. I will raise this issue on the floor of Parliament,” she promised.
As the FDC primaries proceed, all eyes are now on Soroti City to see who will emerge victorious in the race to carry the party’s flag in the 2026 general elections.
