Kumi Municipality Deputy Mayor, Okello Julius, has officially entered the race for the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries after picking nomination forms earlier today.
Okello, who is serving his second term as Deputy Mayor, is seeking to represent the party at a higher level, pledging effective and accountable leadership grounded in grassroots service.

Speaking shortly after picking the forms, Okello said his decision to contest stems from his deep commitment to community development and his desire to give back through structured party leadership.

“I believe in servant leadership. I have walked with the people, I have listened to their needs, and now I want to be their voice at the NRM decision-making table,” he said.
Okello brings with him a rich history of service to the people of Kumi and beyond.

Apart from his role as Deputy Mayor, he currently serves as the Secretary for Finance in the NRM mainstream leadership for Kumi District, a position in which he has advocated for transparent resource allocation and financial discipline within the party.
Beyond politics, Okello also serves as Patron for the Uganda Red Cross Society in Kumi, Bukedea, and Ngora districts, where he has been instrumental in supporting humanitarian efforts, especially during emergencies and community health drives.
He previously served as Chairperson of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) at Bazaar Primary School, a role that showcased his commitment to education and parental involvement in school development.
Okello emphasized the need for unity within the party and encouraged other aspirants to maintain a peaceful and respectful campaign process.
“NRM is a party of peace, and we must lead by example. Let’s compete on ideas, on what we can offer to the people, and not personal attacks,” he noted.
He promised to champion issues of youth empowerment, improved service delivery, and economic growth if given the mandate.
He also hinted at his broader vision of strengthening party structures at the grassroots, saying the future of NRM lies in how well the base is organized and supported.
As he begins his journey through the primaries, Okello Julius is banking on his long-standing relationship with the people and his consistent record of service.
His entry into the race is expected to add weight and depth to the contest in Kumi, attracting both grassroots and institutional support.
