John Michael Osegge, husband to former Soroti District Woman Member of Parliament Angeline Osegge, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Soroti District LCV Chairperson seat in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.

The announcement was made on Saturday June 07, 2025 during Soroti PAG Cathedral Fundraising run at Soroti Sports Ground.

Osegge, said he was responding to persistent calls from local leaders, elders, and ordinary citizens to offer transformative leadership at the district level.

Osegge emphasized that his candidacy was rooted in the desire to restore integrity, transparency, and inclusive service delivery at the district level.

He cited poor infrastructure, underfunded schools, inadequate health services, and youth unemployment as major issues he plans to address once elected.

While John Michael Osegge is new to elective politics, he is not new to public service.

He is also widely recognized for supporting his wife, Hon. Angeline Osegge, during her decade-long tenure in Parliament from 2011 to 2021.

A former chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee and a vocal human rights advocate, Angeline Osegge lost an election in 2021 to Ann Adeke Ebaju but remains an influential figure in Soroti and national politics.

However, political analysts in the region believe that Osegge’s entry significantly shifts the dynamics.

“John Michael Osegge carries the legacy of his wife’s reformist politics and has grassroots appeal. He is educated, calm, and well-connected within civil society networks,” said Richard Ekolu, a political commentator based in Soroti. “If he runs a focused campaign and secures party support, he will be a serious contender.”

Osegge has declared he will contest under independent ticket.

Several community leaders and residents welcomed Osegge’s decision, describing it as timely and encouraging.
